EMDR and ACT are both life-changing therapies. Can ACT make EMDR even more effective? (a 90 min webinar)
EMDR’s Standard Protocol encourages therapists to “get out of the way” and intervene as little as possible—but what happens when processing stalls? Although cognitive interweaves are frequently mentioned in EMDR training, they are rarely explored in depth and are often presented without a clear theoretical framework. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) offers a rich foundation for developing purposeful interweaves that help clients move beyond entrenched narratives, shame, experiential avoidance, or overidentification with younger ego states.
In this 90-minute online workshop, participants will learn when cognitive interweaves are most clinically useful, how an ACT-informed conceptualization can prepare both therapist and client for these moments, and practical strategies for intervening effectively while remaining consistent with the Standard Protocol. We will also discuss how to recognize when temporarily stepping outside the protocol is clinically indicated—and how to do so intentionally and effectively.
This webinar is intended for people who have already completed an introduction to ACT workshop and a EMDR beginner’s workshop. Participants will be expected to already know the six main processes of the ACT hexaflex, and the 8 Phases of EMDR and feel ready to learn how to use these together.
